I know initial release won’t have this level of expressiveness, but I found this to be an interesting read, and makes me very hopeful for the future. I think the challenge for will be finding the right face construction to allow it to be expressive while also being durable enough for medium force contact on a regular basis. I don’t expect it will be a simple manufacturing process.

    Excerpt:
FACE is animated by 32 servo motors positioned inside the skull and in the upper torso and linked to specific elastomer-fiber anchors with yarns. The mechanical properties of Frubberâ„¢ allow it to be stretched by the motion of the servo motors distributing the force in the area close to the anchor point of the skin.
